Sigma Phi Chi (ΣΦΧ) (from the Greek sigma, "love," pi, "defense," and chi, "chiropractic") is a professional sorority of chiropractors at the Palmer College of Chiropractic, where it is frequently referred to simply as "Sigma". Sigma Phi Chi's current focus includes community charity service, women's chiropractic and personal development, chiropractic philosophy and technique, and new practice strategies. It is open to all women in the Doctor of Chiropractic program, Chiropractic Technician program, and to wives of students. Its colors are crimson and white.
[edit] History
The Alpha Grand chapter of Sigma Phi Chi was established in 1911; however, it was not until May 25, 1914 that the state of Iowa recognized the group.
Nestled on the Palmer College of Chiropractic campus in Davenport, Iowa, the sorority was led by the "first lady" of the chiropractic, Mabel Heath Palmer, until her death in 1949. Her daughter-in-law, Agnes High Palmer, was then deemed Supreme Kiatrus and upon passing, appointed Dr. Glenda Foy to her position.
