The SIG P239 is a semi-automatic pistol designed and manufactured in Switzerland by Swiss Arms AG (formerly SIG Arms AG (distributed in United States by the SIGARMS). It is offered in three calibers: 9 x 19 mm Parabellum, .357 SIG and .40 S&W.

With an overall length of 6.6 in (168 mm) and height of 5.2 in (132 mm), and weighing approximately 25–27 oz (710–770 g) empty (depending on caliber), the P239 has become quite popular in the United States as a concealed carry pistol. Magazine capacity is 8 rounds (9 mm) or 7 rounds (.357 SIG or .40 S&W).

[edit] Decocking lever

Most all SIG pistols have decockers and are available with DAO or DA/SA triggers. These pistols are intended for duty and urban defense. The P239 is the first SIG chambered for the .357 SIG round, and to increase its durability it was made with a one-piece slide. A reputed advantage for the .357, besides its obvious ballistic potential, is the necked-down case. This reportedly aids feeding reliability. Other SIGs have a separate breechblock that is pinned into the slide, a feature that is unique to SIG among pistol manufacturers. The P239 is also slimmer than other SIGs, as it has a single-stack magazine. This helps with concealment. Action is recoil-operated, using a linkless camblock design. The pin visible on the slide just behind the ejection port is the firing pin bolt, not a pin for the breechblock. Everything else is business as usual for SIG/Sauer: fit, finish, reliability, service life, and accuracy are all top-notch. The P239 is also available in chamberings for .40 S&W and 9mm Parabellum.

The actions available are double action only (DAO) or double/single action (DA/SA), as well as the new DAK trigger system developed for law enforcement, which functions much like a DAO trigger but with a much lighter than usual 6.5 lb (29 N) trigger pull. There is also a concealed carry version called SIG Anti-Snag™ or SAS. It has a dehorned stainless steel slide with custom SIG wooden grips and the DAK trigger system.
