The Sig Sauer P230 is a small, semi-automatic handgun. It is chambered in .32 ACP or .380 AUTO. Due to its small dimensions, it is often carried as a backup weapon, holding 9 rounds of .32 ACP or 8 rounds of .380 AUTO, respectively. A special police model is also available, which is chambered in 9x19mm Luger.[citation needed]

The P230 features a 5.5lb double action-only trigger and has no external safeties. It has a reputation as a well-built firearm and is a popular choice as a backup to larger caliber firearms.[citation needed]
