Talk:Sierra Blanca, Texas
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
What a neat little town. A mixture of gringos and Mexicans that have a very close bond...sure we fight, argue, love, hate, marry, and cuss each other....just like folks have done for years all over the world....but because this community is so very isolated... politically, geographically, and one could say socially, we have come to rely on and support each other through life's little tricks.
Sierra Blanca, Texas.... Why in the world is it where it is?......Well it seems that some rich dudes back East wanted a southern route for a trans-continental railroad...You know the one I am talking about. That's right ....the one dreamed up by a guy by the name of Jefferson Davis, the president of the southern states...civil war and all that jazz. Well NOT while he was in that job though. He got his brainstorm while he was working for the good old US of A, and his job was Secretary of War. You see, he knew that in order for us to become a great nation, we had to have a reliable way to move folks and goods over long distances rapidly and ....a lot of Free LAND.
Shortly after the Mexican War, the route was surveyed, and the plan was put into motion. But the Civil War came along, and being that the North won, the first trans-continental railroad moved north several hundreds of miles. After the wonderful blizzards of the northern plains and snows in the beautiful western mountains, and the absolute terror of keeping such a wonderful railroad running in such weather, ol' Jeff Davis's plan had a rebirth, and it was decided that there would be a race between two railroads for the honor of building track all the way to California. SO...whoever reached this little spot on the map in the wilds of West Texas...would win that honor. It did not make any difference that there was no water within 6 miles of the spot or that there were nothing but wild Apache Indians in the area, or that it was a long way from Dallas to El Paso or the other starting point Houston.
more later if wanted or needed ...ha ha ...kind of fun thanks
