Side Impact Protection System

SIPS, acronym for Side Impact Protection System, is a system of protection against side impacts developed by Volvo.

SIPS was released in the 1992 Volvo Volvo 700 and 900 series [1].

The SIPS system is most known for the fact it was the first side impact protection system to eventually include the use of side airbags, which became fitted as standard equipment on all Volvo models from the 1997 model year onward.
