Sid the Squid
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sid the Squid is a fictional Squid who appears in Animaniacs as a foe of Slappy Squirrel. He is voiced by Jack Burns.
Like Walter Wolf and Beanie the Brain-Dead Bison, Sid is one of several cartoon villains who faced Slappy during the 1930's and 1940's. Sid still holds bitter memories on these events, and like Slappy, recites each cartoon he starred in, along with year-of-release and director, followed by his grumbling catchphrase "I hated (Director's name)".
In the villainous trio, Sid usually acts as Number Two to Walter Wolf, but his attempts to harm Slappy are usually exposed or painfully obvious, such as dynamite sticks being used as candles on a cake, or cherry bombs in a fruitbowl.
Sid is described by Skippy Squirrel as "Slappy's fishy foe", but unlike most marine creatures, Sid appears to be able to move about on land without the need for water.
Sid's full name was apparently popular with Warner Bros. Animation writers at the time of his creation, as it was also used as the nickname for a gangster named Sidney in the Batman: The Animated Series episode "The Man Who Killed Batman".
