[edit] Summary

Description

Statue of St Ignatius of Loyola by Tom Bass, first placed on Wallace Wing in 1959, now on the side of the Ramsay Hall at St Ignatius' College, Riverview, Sydney, Australia. Ignatius is standing on a book which has on its left page "The Pilgrim". The Symbols on the Chasuble are taken from the first seal of the Society of Jesus. The crescent moon refers fo Jerusalem, the stars suggest his lifelong contemplation of a universe created by a loving God. IHS is the first three letters of Jesus' name, combined with the cross. His arms are upheld in a Priestly gesture of offering, in this case a spirit retort, in which liquids are made holy, on which there lies a small cross. The destination of the outstretched arms' offering is "AMDG", a common Jesuit motif that reveals a phrase "Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam", "To the Greater Glory of God".
