Siadwell
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Siadwell (pronounced "Shadwell") was a character in the 1980s BBC sketch show Naked Video. Siadwell was a Welsh poet who was featured sitting in his bedsit wearing an anorak and thick-rimmed glasses. He would appear every week, greeting viewers with the line "Hello, Siadwell here", and would then proceed to inform viewers what he had been up to since last week. The character was played by actor John Sparkes, and was apparently based on Rik Mayall's character Kevin Turvey.
Siadwell appeared in the show from 1986 to 1989, making his final appearance as a ghost (having died of alcohol poisoning the week before) in the final episode of series 3.
The character Callum Gilhooley in the Channel 4 show Absolutely is said to be based in part on Siadwell.
Siadwell has also become a generic term for civil servants of the DVLA in Swansea.
