SIAI Savoia S9 was an Italian flying boat from 1918. It was manufactured by Societa Idrovolanti Alta Italia (S.I.A.I.). The S9 might be a development of the FrenchFBA flying boat.
[edit] Use in Finland
The Finnish Air Force had one S9 flying boat, which had been a gift from Italy to Finland. It was destroyed in May 1920 while attempting to land on the water. Major Mikkola who had been flying the plane then went to Italy to get two more S9s, that had been funded by a Finnish tobacco industrialist. Both aircraft were destroyed in the Alps due to their bad quality propellers and since the Finns had gone flying in rain, which the Italians had warned would destroy the propellers.
