[edit] Welcome!

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the Countries WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of counties.

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Starting some new articles? See some model pages such as Cambodia!
  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every country article in Wikipedia.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Shy1520 10:26, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Quick note

Don't sweat it. :) You were trying to do the right thing, and I appreciate that a lot. Thanks for bringing the mistake to my attention, as well. Luna Santin 00:46, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleting copyright violations

Are you referring to any page in particular? – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 01:29, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

The article was clearly a copyright violation, copied from here. It had been listed on WP:CV since August 6. We appreciate your willingness to help improve Wikipedia, but I'm afraid we can't accept copyrighted material. All the best, – Quadell (talk) (bounties) 01:38, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image:World map.gif

Hey, I just noticed you're the uploader of this image, and its copyright status or something is unclear, so it may be deleted soon. Since it's used on many pages, could you input the copyright status so it can stay? Thanks! --Roberto C. Guión 07:34, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiprojects

Please stop making Wikiprojects in the article namespace. See WP:NS for more. [1] and [2] are where you should be making them. Daniel.Bryant T · C ] 04:32, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikiproject Marine Biology; please stop

Please stop adding Wikiproject Marine Biology templates to articles until that broken template is fixed. Currently it is wrongly classifying all articles as "country" articles.

Also, there is no need to slap Wikiprojects onto articles that already belong to other Wikiprojects. None of the Wikiproject fishes article need another Wikiproject, especially if the two Wikiprojects don't have the same charter or standardized article content format. =Axlq 02:58, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Umm...that template has been fixed for a long time, so I don't know what you're talking about. And if you've been with wikipedia for a long time, you should know that there are many diverse groups. An article can have more than one template, if it relates to more than one topic. You might want to also lose the attitude. Shy1520 03:07, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
As of this time, Template:WPMBA shows nothing but "country" class article categories in it. The template has not been "fixed for a long time" because it was just created today, by you. Please don't misrepresent the situation. Also, doesn't it make sense for an article to belong to more than one wikiproject template only if the two wikiprojects agree on scope and content? That isn't clear in this case, because you just invented the Wikiproject today, while Wikiproject fishes has very detailed requirements for articles. =Axlq 03:19, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Really? Because I don't see the word "country" on there at all. Maybe if you are so obsessed with what I have been up to, you could see the edit which has the word going from "country" to "marine biology". How about you mind your own business. Your little fish project can share. Shy1520 03:15, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Actually look at Ecuador. That should sum it all up for you, two different projects with different expectations. It all helps the article though. That is how articles become FA class, they recieve treatment from many different groups, adding a large majority of info. Shy1520 03:22, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
Followup: Thanks, I see you just repaired the template. I encourage your to look at the scope in Wikipedia:WikiProject Fishes, including the article template, to avoid conflicts between the two projects' goals and formats. As you said, that is how articles grow to FA status. =Axlq 03:33, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
As you know, we're new. We will adopt bits and pieces of your project's assessment, and put you under our "parentage" pages. Best of luck. Shy1520 03:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
It isn't "my" project; I joined it only recently. It seems to have been around a while, and I confess I don't yet understand all the requirements in it yet (dealing with taxonomy). That's why I suspect the folks who created it may be serious about the requirements they set for articles about fishes. I apologize for coming across with an attitude earlier, and realize you have good intentions. You can reply here; I will see it. =Axlq 03:42, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:MarineBio.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:MarineBio.jpg. I notice the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this file yourself, then there needs to be a justification explaining why we have the right to use it on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you did not create the file yourself, then you need to specify where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the file also doesn't have a copyright tag, then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Note that unless you took this photo yourself, you probably do not have permission to post it to Wikipedia under the GFDL license. Images that you find on the web are unusable by default. —Steven G. Johnson 23:53, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies

Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of [unassessed articles] tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 22:31, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
