[edit] Need your input

I have finnished creating the Notable assassinations of the Sri Lankan Civil War article per the concensus we reached on the other page. I need your opinion as to proceed further with the re directs to this neutral article. Thanks RaveenS 20:41, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

The above seem to be sort of done but I havecopy edited another one Burning of Jaffna library. If you have time, just take a look at for NPOV violations. Thanks RaveenS 17:34, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] G. Wayne Clough

I know it's not a very expansive article, but how does it read like a resumé? —Disavian (talk/contribs) 17:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi Disavian, {{Like-resume}} is, as I understand it, the biographical counterpart of {{advert}}, indicating a promotional tone. In this case, I think it's also fitting since the article is more or less a litany of accomplishments. It's pretty much exactly what I would expect to find in a high level resume or an excutive summary in the official literature of an organization: Not the biography of a person, so much as an inventory of professional merit.
The first phrase to to catch my attention was "exemplary performance". Reading on, the level of detail seemed excessive. I learn that he was "provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Washington before returning to Georgia Tech as its president" -- but what does that tell me about him, about the work he accomplished, or about either of these institutions? And there are more examples like this. Then, I found the section devoted to honors and awards. That tipped the scale. Any of these elements alone wouldn't necessarily make me think "résumé"; taken together, they do.
I don't mean at all to disparage Dr. Clough's accomplishments, but Wikipedia is full of biographies of accomplished people, and I'm not sure it serves even Dr. Clough well if the article about him looks disproportionately "puffy" in comparison. Rather than expansion, I think this article would benefit from condensation: Identifying the most notable elements in his career and using them to construct a unifying narrative. Reducing the number of points of data will make the article read more like a story than a list. (What is a résumé, after all, but a variety of list?) Choosing the most relevant points will make it clearer that the point of the article is to inform rather than to promote. -- Shunpiker 18:54, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
P.S. I looked around to compare some other university president articles:
  • Derek Bok (most like the Clough article -- essentially a management summary -- but more succinct)
  • Susan Hockfield (good narrative up top offsets the lists below)
  • John L. Hennessy (just the facts, man!)
The problem is, is that he's one of those rare university professors that does everything right. Crazy, isn't it? Anyway, do you know of any FA/A/GA-class biographies of university presidents or academic officials? That would help me. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:58, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi Disavian, Reading the article once again, I think that tweak to the "Education" section resolved my quibbles. Thanks for being so open to feedback! -- Shunpiker 02:48, 27 March 2007 (UTC)
Oh, okay. Thanks! I'll probably put it up for peer review some time in the next month or so. How do you like that nickname, by the way? It's a recurring joke by Two Bits Man that seems to have caught on more than I realized. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 16:45, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] gnosis "dinky" stub

I hope to get to it. Thanks for the invite. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thaddeus Slamp (talkcontribs) 15:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC).

[edit] Murder of Mary Bastian

Time well wasted, I've updated it, can you look over it and make your neutral call on it please RaveenS 21:45, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Elspeth Monro

Thanks for helping to deal with the Elspeth Monro troll. I am afraid that there is n oquick way to deal with it, unless someone with extra powers decides to block an entire range or something like that. I only discovered this troll last night and I have already blocked several accounts, most of which were other than the ones nominated by you. Let me know on my talk page if you find more. Could you take a look at User:Strento and User:Longend.? I am suspicious of therir behavior based on a quick look at their contributions. Academic Challenger 08:01, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, please let me know if you find more. I won't have a huge amount of time to be on Wikiedia for the next 3 days or so, but I will deal with them as quickly as possible. The oddest thing about this person is that he uses some of his accounts to fight some of his other accounts. Academic Challenger 00:31, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

So I blocked all the users we mentioned, and also User:Nikki Fagin whose been active for a while, and another one whose name I don't remember at the moment. Academic Challenger 01:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC)
