Shuichi Akai

Shuichi Akai (赤井秀一), is a fictional character in the anime series Case Closed.

Shuichi first appears to Conan as a mysterious man, and is first introduced in episodes 230-231. He is a bus passenger, and suspected to be one of the hijackers until proven otherwise. He reveals in that episode that he is looking for someone, but they did not appear, and the bus hijacking situation actually messes up his intentions to find an unnamed target. This target is not Vermouth, as she was in the bus. He is confirmed to be an FBI agent in episode 345. He proves to be quite skilled with a sniper rifle (he can shoot beyond 700 yards). After he breaks BO member Calvados' legs, the latter commmits suicide. He also helps stop Vermouth from killing Jodie. He also appears to have some rivalry with Gin, as well as a relationship with Akemi and Shiho Miyano aka Ai Haibara. He is referred to Gin to be very dangerous, and is thought of as the Silver Bullet that will destroy the Black Organization (though, Vermouth believes it to be Conan).

Before episodes 345, Shuich makes several appearances during the series foreshadowing his true identity(these include flashbacks);

Episode 259: He's seen in a truck. After Ai Haibara said to Conan Edogawa that she felt that they were being watched, a black Chevy Silverado passes that Akai is driving. Haibara senses it and when she turns around she asked Conan if he saw the man in the truck.

Episode 270-271: Conan is informed by Takagi that someone has been spying on Kogoro and immeditaley thinks of Shuichi. Also, Ran recalls seeing him somewhere before.

Episode 285: Ran comes down with an illness and recalls him as one of the people she met, leading to the following Case(Shinich's NY Case)

Episode 288: During the Golden Apple/New York Case (which corresponds with episodes 286-288 of the anime), Shuichi meets Ran and appears to be looking for a criminal. Ran sees him speaking with a nameless FBI agent and already believes that he may be one of them as well. This speculation is renewed during the Dark Contact Case when Ran tells Conan about him.

Episodes 308-309, 311: Seen in the city while Ran and Conan are walking together. Conan believes that he's involved in Haibara's past. He later appears again at the end of the Dark Contact Case.

Appearances after 345

Episode 425: Shuichi appears on top of a building and fires his sniper at Gin. He shoots him, causing him and the other BO members to retreat.

Episode 462: Alongside FBI.

As of Chapter 599, a little of Shuichi's past has been revealed. About three years ago, he posed as a Black Organization member under the alias Dai Moroboshi, codename, "Rye", in hopes of capturing their main man, Gin. He formed a relationship with Akemi whom he met through Haibara. After a mistake within the agency, he is found out, and forced to part way with both Akemi and Haibara. Akemi is later killed by Gin, and possibility where the rivalry between he and Gin stems from.

In Episode 425, Shuichi's sniper rivals in the BO (Black Organization) appear to be a woman named Chianti, and an older man named Korn who appears to be just as skilled as he is. The fact that Chianti is possibly romantically involved with Calvados, the member he caused to commit suicide, may foreshadow an intense rivalry between the two in the future. Currently, Gin appears to be his main rival and sees him as a threat to the BO. This is confirmed in episode 425, when he refers to Gin as his old rival before shooting him, and claims to Jodie that he could've severly injured if he actually wanted to. Also, Gin is responible for killing his girlfriend revealed to be Akemi.

According the File 599, Shuichi left a small scar on Gin's cheek after barely missing him with his sniper in episode 425.
