Shuafat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shoafat is a wealthy Arabic neighbourhood to the northeast of Jerusalem. According to the UN General Assembly Resolution 194 in 1948, Shoafat was to be the most Northern part of the Jerusalem area that was, "in view of its association with three world religions" to be "accorded special and separate treatment from the rest of Palestine and should be placed under effective United Nations control". The United Nations Conciliation Commission in 1949 reaffirmed this statement.
However, after the Six-Day War in 1967, it was incorporated into the municipal area of Jerusalem.
