Showcase Presents

Showcase Presents is a DC Comics collection created as DC's own version of Essential Marvel Comics. It consists in 500+ pages books of black & white paperback reprints of DC Comics (mostly silver age material at present). Other similarities to the Essential collection is the average cost of $16.99 US and the fact that each Showcase series is devoted to one character. The series started in 2005 with the releases of Showcase Presents: Green Lantern Vol. 1 and Showcase Presents: Superman Vol. 1 which were both priced at the special introductory low cover price of $9.99 US (future volumes in the line have been released at the regular cover price of $16.99 US).
The name "Showcase" comes from a 1950s DC anthology used as a stage to try out new characters. Showcase featured the first appearances of the Silver Age Flash and Green Lantern.
The collections follow the DC Archive Editions which reprint older comics in a more expensive format (hardcover), and the cheaper Batman Chronicles and Superman Chronicles which reprint golden age comics in trade paperback format.

- #21-24 are left out of Showcase Presents: Shazam as they reprint the Golden Age Captain Marvel stories (The covers are reprinted, though). #25 was omitted, because the main story featured a crossover with Isis and DC didn't own the rights to that version of the character.[1]
