Shoto Tanemura

Shoto Tanemura (born Tsunehisa Tanemura on August 28, 1947) is the incumbent headmaster of the Genbukan Ninpo Bugei school of martial arts.

Born in in Matsubushi, Saitama Prefecture from a ancient Japanese noble family, he has been trained in martial arts since the age of nine under his father, uncle and many famous masters like Fukumoto, Akimoto, Kobayashi Masao, Kimura Masaji, Sato Kinbei, Masaaki Hatsumi and others. In 1984 he decided to leave the Bujinkan organization headed by Masaaki Hatsumi and embark upon his mission to preserve and promote the true spirit of budo and through the Genbukan organization. He continued to train under many of Takamatsu Toshitsugu high level students such as Sato Kinbei and Kimura Masajicontinuing to add to his own and in turn the Genbukan's wealth of knowledge and expertise in Ninpo Bugei and Koryu Ju-Jutsu. It was through these deep relationships with Takamatsu Toshitsugu's high level students that he was able to receive Menkyo kaiden or complete mastership of a school in Hon Tai Takagi Yoshin ryu, Hon Tai Kukishin ryu, Gikan ryu and others.

He is a retired police officer and taught martial arts at the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Academy.
