Shotgun approach
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The "shotgun approach" is a slang term for an approach in which the subject approaches a number of different solutions indiscriminately. The term is most often used in the context of applications for jobs or schools, where the applicant applies to a large number of jobs or schools fairly indiscriminately in the hopes that at least one of them will accept him or her. The term is derived from the action of a shotgun, which fires an expanding spread of buckshot; the hopes are that at least a few pellets will hit the target.
