From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shoshanna Lonstein (born May 29, 1975 in Manhattan, New York City) is a U.S. fashion designer and an ex-girlfriend of comedian Jerry Seinfeld.
Lonstein attended The Nightingale-Bamford School for girls in New York City on the Upper East Side, graduating in 1993. While still a 17-year-old high school student, she came to public attention dating Jerry Seinfeld, who was still starring in his eponymous sitcom. She started college at George Washington University in Washington, D.C., but in 1994 transferred to the University of California Los Angeles to be closer to Seinfeld. She graduated with a degree in art history in 1997 and their relationship ended that year.
With a loan from her father, Zach Lonstein, chief executive officer of Infocrossing, she started her own clothing company, Shoshanna. Her company's mission is to create clothes - including dresses, underwear and swimwear - that can be worn by women who, like Lonstein herself, have a substantial bust and small waist. The company sells through stores like Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue. She is also a contributing editor for Cosmopolitan magazine.
She has been married to investment analyst Joshua Gruss since May 10, 2003 and they have a daughter, Siena.
In The Simpsons episode Bart Sells His Soul, the character Snake Jailbird has a girlfriend named Shoshanna, which, according to the episode's commentary, was a reference to her.
She is of Jewish descent and her first name means "rose" in Hebrew.
