Sholi
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sholi is an indie/alternative/experimental rock band that originated in Davis, California, and now has members dispersed throughout the Bay Area.
The group started in late 2003 with songwriter/guitarist Payam Bavafa, bassist Danny Milks, and drummer Jonathon Bafus. In early 2004, the band went on hiatus when Danny announced plans of traveling and left the country. He returned to the states in late 2004 to play music again, but after several months of quasi-rekindled spirits, the band reached a mutual decision to part ways. Payam and Jonathon continued to write and perform new material as a duo under the name Rainbow Arm, flirting with Playing to the Grandstand's bassist Bryan Marshall for a short time before joining up with longtime friend and former Legubitron and Zim-Zims bassist, Eric Ruud.
With the new lineup, the trio began playing an extensive amount of shows in the Bay Area and Central Valley in 2006, with frequent additional support from keyboardist Greg Hagel (Legubitron, Gregtron, The Scrawnies).
They have been described as 'psychedelic, noisy, and mathematically ethereal'[1] and have been compared to the likes of Blonde Redhead, The Dirty Three, and King Crimson.
