Sholavandan (Tamil: சோழவந்தான்) is a panchayat town in Madurai district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is located at the bank of Vaigai River.It is one among the 12 "town- panchayats" of Madurai district.[[1]]

The Chairman of the Town Panchayat is V. Ayyappan who won as an independent in the local body elections conducted in 2001.[1] There are 18 wards as part of this Town Panchayat each represented by an elected member.[4] Elected in the Tamil Nadu state assembly election, 2006, P. Moorthy of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam represents Sholavandan in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.[5][6] Sholavandan assembly segment is part of Dindigul parliamentary constituency which is represented by N.S.V. Chitthan of the Indian National Congress.[7]

As of 2001 India censusGRIndia, Sholavandan had a population of 21,661. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Sholavandan has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 65%. In Sholavandan, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
The prime occupation of the people is Agriculture.Sholavandan is very famous for the "betel-leaves" grown there.
