Shocker (paintball marker)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SFT Shocker is an electropneumatic paintball marker manufactured by Smart Parts. It utilizes a spool valve design and is capable of shooting 23+ balls per second (bps). It weighs 1 pound 14 ounces without the barrel asa or regulator. The Shocker is an open bolt marker that employs "seal forward technology" in order for it to seal the chamber of the marker and prevent blowback up the feed tube and increase the consistency, accuracy, and feed rate of shots. It has an operating pressure of around 200 psi.

The Shocker relatively light and small compared to other markers due to the single tube spool valve design. The spool design of the shocker leads to a relatively low amount of recoil and sound signature compared to poppet design markers. But this spool design is inefficient when compared to other markers in its price range. The Shocker is able to shoot around 800 shots with a standard 68cu 4500psi air tank. But this known problem has been remedied by aftermarket bolt kits made by several companies including Smart Parts. The spool design of the shocker also requires the use of many o-ring seals and thus requires slightly more maintanence than other high end markers, mainly poppit design.

Many professional paintball teams use the Shocker and there are many private label versions on the market (I.e. the Dynasty Shocker and the Legion Shocker). The main difference between these and the standard Shocker is the custom milling to the body and other parts. Certain private label markers additionally feature upgraded internals and electronics.

The Shocker incorporates the Smart Parts vision eye system which allows the electronic board to only signal the firing sequence if a paintball is detected in the breach. This helps to prevent ball breaks. The current NXT Shocker model employs beam-break eyes whereas SFT Shockers (2003-2006) used a reflective eye system which is prone to malfunction due to paint color and texture problems.

Smart Parts continuously updates the Shocker with new parts as they are developed thus bringing out new versions every year. The most recent major hange was the NXT Shocker which was an overhaul of the SFT Shocker design. Many flaws or problems the paintball community noticed with the SFT Shocker were corrected in the NXT version. These problems with easily stripped threads, inefficiency, detents, and annodizing were fixed. Several other components were redesigned including the vision, air system rail, and trigger adjustment system.
