Shobu Kapoor is a British Asian actress.

She is most famous for playing the role of Gita Kapoor, the long suffering wife of the market-trader Sanjay (Deepak Verma), in the popular BBC soap opera, EastEnders (1993-1998). During her time on the show, Kapoor's character battled through her husband's infidelity with her sister Meena, IVF, and finally fell pregnant with another man's child in a storyline that saw her absent from the show for a 9 month stint. In actual fact Kapoor was written out of the soap for an extended period as she was herself on maternity leave.

Kapoor left the show in 1998 and has since had roles in the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham; The Bill (2004); the Asian comedy Chicken Tikka Masala (2005); Casualty (2005) and Doctors (2000; 2001; 2006).

In 2006 Shobu appeared in the BBC drama Banglatown Banquet, which told the story of a young Bangladeshi woman (played by Shabana Azmi), who lives near London's Brick Lane and relishes her new-found freedom after her children grow up and leave home. Kapoor appears as her friend Joolie, enrols on a night-class course and takes up gardening on an allotment.

Kapoor Played Taj's mother in the film Van Wilder 2: Rise of the Taj — sequel to the 2002 hit film Van Wilder — which was released on December 1, 2006.

In 2006 she played Talayeh Kirmani in the Irish soap Fair City on RTE and in 2007 she played the minor role of Umi in the Channel 4 drama, Shameless.
