Shivani

Shivani (October 18, 1924-March 2003), whose real name was Gaura Pant, was one of the most popular Hindi authors of the 20th century. She was born in Rajkot, Gujarat and grew up in several princely states where her father was a civil servant. Her first novel (Lal Haveli) established her reputation in the early sixties, and in the next ten years she produced several major works which were serialized in the Hindi magazine Dharmayug. She had cult status in those pre-television times, and her works were popular with Hindi speaking Indians across the country. Her most famous works include Chaudah Phere, Krishnakali, Lal Haveli, Smashan Champa, Bharavi, Rati Vilap and Vishkanya.
