The Shire of Toodyay is a Local Government Area of Western Australia based in the town of Toodyay (31°33′S, 116°27′E; post code: 6566). It covers an area of about 1,700 km² in the inner Wheatbelt region of Western Australia bordering the Perth metropolitan area. It has a population of 3,744 (ABS 2001).

In 1871, the Toodyay Road Board was gazetted, and in 1877, the Newcastle Municipal Council followed. The latter was abolished and merged in 1912, shortly after the town's move, and on 1 July 1961, it became the Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act.[1]
