The Shire of Narrogin is a Local Government Area of Western Australia centred on (but not including) the town of Narrogin (32°56′ S 117°10′ E ; post code: 6312). It covers an area of about 1,600 km² in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia on either side of the Great Southern Highway about 190km south-east of the capital, Perth. It has a population of 846 (ABS 2001).

In 1892, the Narrogin Road Board was gazetted. On 1 July 1961, it became the Shire Council following changes to the Local Government Act.[1] In 1999 and 2004, proposals to merge the council with the Narrogin Town Council were defeated at referendum.[2]

The shire had 4 wards until the 2005 election, but they have since been abolished. 7 councillors sit at large.
