For the E. Annie Proulx novel, and the film based on it, see The Shipping News.

Shipping News is an American indie rock band. The group formed in the fall of 1996 when members Jason Noble and Jeff Mueller, who were both in Rodan, collaborated to create music for the Chicago-based syndicated National Public Radio program This American Life. Kyle Crabtree was recruited as drummer, rounding out the group. The group's sound is similar to those of earlier Louisville, Kentucky indie rock bands such as Slint and Rodan as well as Mueller's former band June of 44.

Shipping News takes its name from the 1993 novel The Shipping News, by E. Annie Proulx.
