Shinx (コリンク Korinku?, Kolink in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media, created by Satoshi Tajiri. Shinx are famous for being one of the Pokémon to be released before the games they appear in. The purpose of Shinx in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]

Shinx was revealed on September 12, 2006, alongside nine other Pokémon, three of which (Starly, Kricketot and Happiny) had already been briefly featured.[3]

The English name for Kolink was revealed as Shinx at the 2007 American International Toy Fair in New York City.[4] The name Shinx is a portmanteau of the words shine and either lynx or Sphinx. This name has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo or Pokémon USA.

The Japanese name Kolink may be a portmanteau of the Japanese word for child ( ko?) and the English word blink, referring to flashing lights.

[edit] Biological characteristics

Shinx resembles a lion cub. It has large oval ears that stick out from the sides of its head, making it look somewhat like Kimba (as a cub) from Kimba the White Lion. Its backside is black, while the front half of it is a baby blue color. It has large yellow eyes with yellow pupils. Its nose is black. Its tail ends in what appears to be a four-pointed star. It has bands of yellow fur around its forelegs, just above the paws. It has a black ring of fur around its neck, which has two downward-facing points in the middle. Male Shinx manes are longer than females', as they stick up higher. Male Shinx also have all-black hind legs, whereas females have blue paws on all of their legs.

Upon sensing danger, it shoots out a dazzling light from every hair on its body. While the opponent is blinded, it takes the opportunity to quickly escape. The yellow pattern on its ears and tail is reminiscent of flashes of light.

Its electricity is generated by the yellow bands on its front legs, much like Pikachu's cheeks. On characteristics, Shinx resembles its counterparts Electrike in Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald.

[edit] In the video games

Shinx is oriented toward physical attack, improved by its Belligerence ability, which raises its attack when the opponent and Shinx are of the same gender. Its other stats are fairly weak, however.

Shinx evolves into Luxio at level 15.
