[edit] Background
The first of Nintendo's popular series of text adventures, Shin Oni Ga Shima is based on an old Japanese folk tale. The adventure follows young Hikari and her primitive friend Donbe (and a host of animal friends) as they travel to the island of demons. There they must dispatch the ruler of demons who has stolen the souls of everyone in Hikari's village, turning them to stone.
[edit] Gameplay
The adventure is played using a command list, allowing the character you are playing as to examine, use, and talk to whatever is about. Progress is marked when the illustrative image in the top-right corner changes.
[edit] Trvia
- A remake of the game was available as Heisei Shin Oni Ga Shima for the Super Famicom (aka, the SNES) in 1998.
- Hikari and Donbe appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee as a collectable trophy.
