Shiji Avenue (Shanghai Metro)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shiji Avenue (Chinese: 世纪大道; pinyin: Shìjì Dàdào) is the name of a Shanghai Metro station. It is named after nearby Century Avenue, confusingly incorporating the Chinese name of the street.

This station is part of Line 2 and Line 4, and will also interchange with Line 6 and Line 9 when the lines become available.

It closed in June 2006 to make way for construction of interchanges. It reopened on Oct 28, 2006 after a one year reconstruction to build a 4-line interchange. Before, it was known as Dongfang Road station. The name was changed according to the new convention to name metro stations after famous streets or sights in the vicinity rather than the vertical street neighbouring the station, making it easier for visitors to find these places.
