Shigi

Shigi (紫義) is a general in the Kotou army, loyal to Prince Hakei. Since the second book he, and his direct subordinate Hien, have been bent on killing the Genbu Seishi and their Miko. At all costs he believes that Genbu must not be summoned. In fact, he is so adamant that he kills the Great Priestess when she predicts that Takiko will summon Genbu. It is revealed later that Shigi was given a place in the army by Hakei at a young age (12) after being found alone, castrated. He does not have an especially good relationship with Hien, usually ordering him calmly about. However, in chapter 19 their friendship starts to grow when they cautiously talk about their pasts. We also see that their relationship is good enough that Hien is prepared to wait in the freezing cold for a bathing Shigi (unwittingly witnessed by Takiko).
