This image is a sequence of panels from a comic strip or the interior of a single issue of a comic book and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the comic or the writer(s) and/or artist(s) which produced the comic in question. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of a sequence of panels from a comic strip or an interior page of an individual comic book

  • to illustrate:
    • the scene depicted, or
    • an important aspect of the copyrighted character(s) or group(s), which is depicted on the excerpted scene in question,

Providing fair-use rationale as requested by the template which I've removed (commented out) as per the template's instructions.
This is a series of panels depicting the Countess Valentina Allegra di Fontaine, a fictional secret agent in Marvel Comics' organization S.H.I.E.L.D. She was created by Jim Steranko, and is one of the first and most prominent characters in that organization and in its various series and miniseries, having been created in the mid-1960s and still appearing. These panels represent a handful of the hundreds in which she appears, and is one of the relative few drawn by her creator.

This image appears three places: On the S.H.I.E.L.D. page, where she is listed under "Prominent members". On the Jim Steranko page as the only pictured example of what the article specifically details, with quotes and footnotes, as Steranko's introduction to comics of "Bond girls" that pushed the envelope of what was allowable under the Comics Code at the time, and historically significant. And finally, it is the sole image depicting her on her own Wikipedia page, Valentina Allegra di Fontaine. Hundreds of images of comic-book characters each appear, similarly, on comic-book charcters' pages throughout Wikipedia. --Tenebrae 03:33, 22 November 2006 (UTC)
