[edit] Booed in Glasgow

I removed the whole bit about her being "booed and bottled" in Glasgow. I can find nothing to support that this ever happened. A later comment about her "American accent" was removed as nonsense as she is hardly the first Scottish singer to use a non-Scottish accent to sing. As she explained on The Tonight Show in 1982, a song like "For Your Eyes Only" simply wouldn't have worked with a brogue and she demonstrated during the interview that she can't sing with a Scottish accent. I can't see that being the basis for "booing and bottling". If someone can provide a source - a media report, a review, an interview - to support this ever happened, go ahead and put it back. 23skidoo 15:24, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

I suggest you Check out: http://www.xfm.co.uk/article.asp?id=98152 "...The highlight was probably seeing Sheena Easton booed off the main stage though, after saying 'It's great to be home' in an American accent!"

and http://news.scotsman.com/topics.cfm?tid=1021&id=1145232003 "... the answer came when she found herself booed at Glasgow's Big Day in 1990 " ( Just search for Sheena Easton )

All found after a short google search.

  • Both those are dubious at best. The Scotsman article just says she was booed. The XFM link is from an interview with some DJ guy who may be exaggerating. It's fine to say someone booed her (heck, I heard Philip Glass booed once by an irate patron of the arts) ... but it's quite another to say she was "booed off stage." For that we need a media source that effectively says her concert ended prematurely because she was booed off stage -- or that anyone threw bottles at her -- and that I've been unable to find. 23skidoo 17:31, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Evidence?

From the Daily Record, Aug 6th, 1997 - "Scots singer Sheena Easton wed for the third time in a quickie Las Vegas ... to star in Scotland again after being booed off stage in Glasgow six years ago"

From the Mirror (London) Aug 6th, 1997 - "Scots singing star Sheena Easton has married for the third time in a hush-hush Las Vegas ceremony...booed off stage on Glasgow Green in 1990"

From the Daily Record again, Feb 1st 2001 - " Sheena Easton's career is on the fast track to oblivion. ... booed and bottled off stage during The Big Day festival at Glasgow Green..."

From the Sunday Mail Nov 22nd, 1998 - "And so Scots singer Sheena Easton and film director Tim Delarm pledged For Your ... in Scotland again after being booed off stage in Glasgow"

From the Mirror June 27th, 2001 - "Sheena Easton is tripping the light fantastic once again. ... she was "bottled" and booed off stage at The Big Day on Glasgow Green in 1990.."

  • All of these are tabloids, however, which are notorious for exaggerating things. Let's see a reference to the event made by Easton herself, or a non-tabloid review. 23skidoo 03:02, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
They may be tabloids but they meet the standard. It's ridiculous to demand a quote from the woman herself saying "I was booed off the stage in Scotland." Sylvain1972 20:40, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image deletion

Someone is welcome to try to post a new image for this article, but I would advise obtaining the social insurance number and the mother's maiden name of the photographer before attempting to do so other wise it'll just get marked for deletion. 23skidoo 19:22, 16 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Accent

I think I was the one who originally added the point about Sheena's brogue being absent from her singing voice. I saw an interview with her that was done a few years back for the For Your Eyes Only DVD release and it sounded from the snippets included as if her brogue is gone from her speaking voice as well. Has anyone heard any recent interviews with her that might confirm whether she's lost the accent altogether? 23skidoo 21:50, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] reissue album; Christopher Neil quotes

Please put attribution or cite sourcing for Christopher Neil quotes about her back catalog. Also, info on Lover in Me reissue and where her career would/should be is speculative, not factual.

Please sign your comments. Speaking as a fan of the pre-Prince Sheena (I never cared for her work afterward) the possibility that there might be some unreleased early tracks is good news, but I agree something like this needs to be sourced otherwise it might just be wishful thinking. 23skidoo 15:28, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Deleted statement

I've deleted the following statement as simply too speculative and unsourced: "It has been alleged that during her time in the United States Easton has made herself stunningly rich through property deals." If someone can provide a reputable source, etc etc, it can go back in. Otherwise WP:BLP applies. 23skidoo 03:00, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
