A famous "ice room" (冰室), a kind of café, in Shek Wu Hui.

Sheung Shui (Chinese: 上水) is part of the Fanling-Sheung Shui New Town in the North District of Hong Kong. Fanling is to its southeast.

Shek Wu Hui (石湖墟) used to be the marketplace of Sheung Shui, before the development of the new town. It was the main market in Sheung Shui since 1930s. Today some private residences can be found towering over the old flats in the hui (market). Most of the buildings we see today were repaired in the 50s.

Sheung Shui Wai (上水圍), originally dwelled by the Liu (廖) clan, is a walled village. The ancestral hall Liu Man Shek Tong (廖萬石堂) in the village is one the declared monuments of Hong Kong.

The Fung Kai No.1 Secondary School (鳳溪第一中學), located near Sheung Shui Wai, (originally established by the Liu clan), is the largest secondary school in Hong Kong, in terms of area covered. More than one turfed football field can be found inside the school campus. Because of its green and ample campus, the school used to serve as a scene for local Educational Television programs.

Sheung Shui is served by the Sheung Shui Station of KCR East Rail such that residents can go to Kowloon and other districts along the KCR within 40 minutes.

Many KMB routes serve Sheung Shui. Residents can take buses to other parts of North District, western New Territories (including Yuen Long, Tuen Mun and Tsuen Wan), Tai Po, Sha Tin, most parts of Kowloon, Sheung Wan and the Airport. The bus terminus is located at Landmark North.

There are also different routes of minibus starting from and being by way of Sheung Shui. There are routes start from Sheung Shui to other parts of the North District, Yuen Long, Tuen Mun, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong and Causeway Bay. There is a minibus terminus near Landmark North.
