Sherwood, Nottingham

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sherwood is a residential area of Nottingham, England.

Historically it may have been called Carrington or Bagthorpe (POV).

Several buildings included carved, dated stones showing the area was initially built between 1870 and 1910, during the growth of the Lace industry. There are also several Listed buildings. Sherwood (roughly) covers the area between Mansfield Road, Hucknall Road and the City boundary.

Alas the sherwood area has seen better days.

In the music area "Air Supply" is a duo of pop musicians who had a succession of soft-rock ballad hits worldwide through the late 1970s and early 1980s. It consists of English guitarist and vocalist Graham Russell (b.1 June 1950, Sherwood, Nottingham, England)(who started his career in a local group called UNION BLUES,with chris Raynor and Mick Jackson ) and Australian lead vocalist Russell Hitchcock (b.15 June 1949, Melbourne, Australia).

Areas that lie next to Sherwood are Mapperley, Bestwood, Basford, Carrington (although sometimes wrongly said to be part of Sherwood itself) and Woodthorpe.
