[edit] Story

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Cars movie

Sheriff arrests Lightning McQueen for speeding, after The Delinquent Road Hazards played music to get Mack asleep, then they opened Lightning's 'gate', so Lightning himself got lost. As Sheriff chased Lightning, Sheriff himself back-fired from not having gone so fast after so long, causing Lightning to think that Sheriff was trying to shoot his tires out, and Sheriff to think that Lightning was crazy. He's also friends with Doc Hudson. He later befriends Lightning McQueen (he even offers to give him a police escort to California), and joins his pit crew for the championship race. During a mid-credits scene, Sheriff arrests the Delinquent Road Hazards and made them pave the road (after impounding them, of course).

[edit] Cars video game

In the video game, Sheriff challenges Lightning to a race that is reminsent of their chase in the movie. Also, Sheriff assists Lightning in catching the Delinquent Road Hazards after they rob Mack and they get locked in the impound. Sheriff is playable in both Arcade Mode and VS. Mode as well as the minigame "Sheriff's Hot Pursuit", where he catches various speeders.

[edit] Trivia

  • His grill resembles a mustache. Though all cars of his model have such a grill, his voice actor, Michael Wallis, suspects that the "mustache" was modeled off his own.
  • Sheriff, when instructing Mater to get Lightning McQueen to court, he calls McQueen "a delinquent road hazard." This could possibly be a reference to Boost, Wingo, DJ, and Snot Rod, the Delinquent Road Hazards, although probably not, as Delinquent Road Hazards is nothing more than a fan-assigned nickname for the four.
  • His license plate number is the Carburetor County symbol and 001 (meaning he is the number-one man in the county's law enforcement, with Red being number two), but in the video game, it reads SHERIFF.
  • The 1949 Mercury would have been an unusual choice for a Police Cruiser and was chosen due to the grille design. However, the similar 1950 V8 Ford was one of the most popular choices at the time for a Police Cruiser.
  • The 1949 Mercury is a very heavy looking car, it is implied several times in the movie that the Sheriff is out of shape.
  • His side-view mirrors double as extra headlamps, and seem to mimic two sheriff's badges when lit and that makes four headlights and four rear lights and that gives Sheriff eight lights all together.
