Shenzhen University (SZU, 深圳大学,深大, or 深圳大學) is a university authorized and established in 1983 by Chinese State Council and the Shenzhen Government. SZU is a multi-discipline university which offers 42 undergraduate degree programs, 69 graduate programs (66 master programs and 3 doctoral programs) and mature student program in a large scale. The student population is large, with 14,000 undergraduates, 1300 graduates and 6,000 part-time matures students. 15 countries are represented by around 360 international students.

Shenzhen University, like the city of Shenzhen where it is situated, was initially considered to be a reformer. It had taken the lead in China to adopt the credit system, encourage new pedagogy, abolish the job allocation system, and minimize political interference in education. The institution after the events of 4 June 1989, however, experienced a troubling period, with education being controlled by politics and with increased corruption. It was a time characterized by a disengagement from education by both students and teachers.

In 2005, the number of full-time students was expected to reach 15,000 as a result of the Chinese government's policy to encourage university to accept more students. During the spring of 2007 the university will be evaluated as part of a national assessment of higher education.
