Shelly Dass is a television news presenter in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago. She is a co-anchor of the nightly news on Cable News Channel 3, along with Carla Foderingham.

[edit] Childhood and early career

Shelly was born and raised in the private oil-community of Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad. Her father a player in the oil industry for many years. Shelly Dass was educated at the private "St Peters Primary School" in Pointe-a-Pierre, St. Joseph's Convent, and later, Oral Roberts University in the United States, where she studied broadcast journalism. Since her return to Trinidad and Tobago, Shelly has worked for several major television stations in the country. She was recognized as one of the youngest in the media industry to rise to such a level success.

Shelly has been a news anchor at both CCN TV6 and Trinidad and Tobago Television, prior to her stint at Cable News Channel 3. She was a co-presenter of Morning Edition and later the anchor of the News At Ten on TV6, before moving to the anchor chair at TTT's Panorama. She briefly returned to TV6 in 2005, before joining CNC3. In addition to her duties as co-anchor of the evening news, Shelly is also the host, senior producer and moderator of the current affairs programme The Big Story on CNC3. The show won an award for outstanding analysis and coverage from the Hilton group of hotels, three months into its airing.

Shelly was thrust into public controversy a few years ago for her participation in a charity "Celebrity Auction" to raise money for the Trinidad and Tobago Cancer Society. Titled "Single, Sexy, Sold" Shelly drew the highest bid, of almost $50,000. The bid was made by local club-owner and businessman, Howard Chin Lee, who was appointed National Security Minister under the PNM administration.

In June 2006, Shelly was run off the road by an unknown motorist. She sustained injuries after her car flipped-over and down 100 ft into a precipice. This was the second occasion in which she was involved in an accident on the same highway. The first incident occurred in 2001, following her participation in a Celebrity Auction.
