Shellos (カラナクシ? Karanakushi in original Japanese language versions) are one of the 493 fictional species of Pokémon creatures from the multi-billion-dollar[1] Pokémon media franchise – a collection of video games, anime, manga, books, trading cards and other media created by Satoshi Tajiri. The purpose of Shellos in the games, anime and manga, as with all other Pokémon, is to battle both wild Pokémon, untamed creatures encountered while the player passes through various environments, and tamed Pokémon owned by Pokémon trainers.[2]
Its name is likely a pun on the word shell and the suffix -less (or perhaps the German equivalent of -los); Shellos has no shell. The Japanese name Karanakushi comes from the Japanese words for shell (殻 kara?), without (無く naku?), and pond snail (田螺 tanishi?), literally translating to a snail without a shell.
This image from the 2007 American International Toy Fair in New York City clearly shows its name is "Shellos", although it has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo or Pokémon USA.

[edit] Biological characteristics
Shellos is based on a sea slug. Shellos and its evolution, Toritodon, exist in two different forms found in different parts of Sinnoh. The pink one comes from the west of the mountain range (the side with Twinleaf Town), and the blue comes from the east side; thus, Shellos is an example of allopatric speciation.
[edit] In the video games
Shellos learns three Ground attacks, which are the second generation Mud-Slap, the third generation Mud Sport, and the fourth generation Mud Bomb. It evolves at level 30 and is one of the few Pokémon that can learn the move Hidden Power by leveling up.
Shellos can have one of two abilities: the pre-existing Sticky Hold; and the new ability Storm Drain, which draws Water-type attacks to this Pokemon during a double battle.
For a short time near the release of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, Shellos was mistakenly reported by a few sources as a pre-evolution of Lapras; however, this was quickly proven false.
