Hi Shadowcat60. Regarding the edit to American Pit Bull Terrier:

they can do nicely as an only dog in a family with children over age eight and can handle rough play.

I don't think that's an accurate statement. There are many APBTs that do fine in families with younger children and other dogs (or cats). Well-bred dogs have a reputation for being excellent with children. You can find examples via the links at the bottom. Jasmol 17:35, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
