The silent words crept from my lips, as the day seemed to wither away from me.
“Forgive me…” I said softly as I stared down at her.
I couldn’t pull my eyes away to mourn what just happened. The tears forming like water from a running faucet. The blade was plunged into her lower stomach.
“Why did you make me do this… it wasn’t my fault?” I thought to my self.
The vivid images running through my head, my past screaming my name, calling me back to where it all began. A vast and wild place called, Phantom Gorge.
It was a Kingdom till I was born, people remained bound to their belief’s in peace. A rumor of a great and powerful sword, caught my father’s attention, he had also heard in order to find it, he must rid himself of his heart, and his kingdom. This would give him power beyond belief. He gave into his darkness, the sword’s pre-curse, when he closed his eyes he could see it in his hands…
Virgil stood tall at his balcony window starring down with deadly green eyes; his short black slicked back hair, his long blue trench coat swayed in the wind of the destruction of his kingdom.
“Virgil! Please just let the people have what they want! You’re putting your Kingdom at stake!” A young woman cried out embracing her young child close to her breast. The fire that blazed around him and the young woman was overwhelming.
The young woman named Iris, on her knees looking up at Vigil with white pouring eyes; her hair was midnight black, which shined with so much radiance. Her thrashed clothes seeping with blood from where she had been wounded from the war and destruction from outside the kingdom’s great walls…
The king made his escape, as did the young woman with her child; the people of Phantom Gorge over threw the kingdom. Fires burned walls, people died trying to flee, the people turned on each other. The curse was taking it toll on all who were under my father’s rule.
My father couldn’t have any trace leading back to him everything had to be covered up before the people realized they too were bewitched, hence his search for my mother. The thought of her being alive drove him madly insane; he did eventually find her…but me along with her.
I stared up at him wondering why he was going to hurt my mother, but before I could realize anything my mother’s body covered me, keeping me safe from my Father’s rage and his obsession with power.
“That demon you have must go back to hell along with you witch!” His dark green eyes glared at the woman’s pure white eyes as he drew his sword from his sheath.
“He is your son you monster!” She snapped back at him, her eyes full of tears. Holding on to her eight-year-old son.
My Father had plunged his sword into my mother’s chest, but in doing so, she had cursed my father. He was cursed never to touch me, as long as I didn’t forget who he was. My mother passed away for me; her blood burned a scar on my lower arm, of the heart-catcher insignia of our family that soon dissappeared in time. But little did I know that everything that happened to them and me then…was all a sham.
My Father was a great man, seeking to rule all that stood in his way. But there was another kingdom far to the south called Angels Grave. Queen Aries was the ruler of that kingdom; she stood modestly at her mirror thinking about how much more beauty can she possibly have her long dark red hair shined with her tiara, the flashing hazel green eyes changed to a brunette color, her slight sluggish figure posed as she nearly cracked the mirror with her hideous teeth. But all that to the side, she also married a young man by the name of Aden a very bright young man willingly feel in love with Aries (Sadly). They too had a son the same age as my parents gave birth to me eight years old. Their son was insane, and was always full of energy, willingly do what he pleased. One day many years later, their son was infuriated by what his Mother was saying to him.
“You useless boy! Stop your grumbling, you were born a prince why don’t you start acting like one!” She snapped, as she turned to slap him across his face.
The young boy stood their, catching her hand before it could hit him, his calm look on his face turned to rage, as he threw his mother’s hand back to once it came. Aries’s rage soon took over and exiled her only son for treason and insubordination.
“You will pay for this Mother.” He said in a stern and harsh voice, as he pushed his way through the kingdom.
Aries merely waved her hand signifying that he was to leave and never come back. Since that moment her only boy has lived only in his mother’s memories.
Soon that rumor of the sword of great power once heard by my father and is in search for passed through the lands. The Queen also took heed to this sword and sought out to find someone who has heard of it. Days later Aries had finally found a senile old witch who has heard of the sword many times before in the years.
“You! Witch tell me, what is this sword I am hearing about?” She asked with a cold face, and with her eyes that would make your blood turn to snot.
The witch would tell her the story behind the sword and what its magnificent powers were. “Listen closely my dear Majesty, the only way to find it, is to rid your self of your heart, the one thing you cherish most…” The scrawny witch conjured a spell showing Aries’s husband Aden. “My Queen, he is the first to go…but also there is another thing you must rid your self of…” She quickly added giving a slight grin on her wrinkled of a melted face. “You must rid your self of your kingdom, the sword will not take anything that isn’t from scratch. Think of it as a you’re rebirth into this world, not just ruling over on Kingdom, but all that remain on the face of the earth.”
Aries looked down at the witch and sighed in disbelief. Also in disgust of the witch’s body disfigurements, the queen ordered the witch to be removed from her presence. “If what she says is true, this sword would allow me to rule over all, but what if someone else has heard of it also? I will find this sword before anyone else!” She thought standing up from her throne.
In that same night, Aries murdered her husband in his sleep, and sent her soldiers to murder her people; the witch soon began to bewitch all the soldiers to kill even themselves. The people of Angel’s Grave retaliated against the queen assault.
Angel’s Grave was no more.
Behold the sword of Darkening Twilight.
“Hey! Get up, we have business to take care of!” A young man named Corvin yelled in my ear.
My great companion from who knows when? His long straight thin brown hair, partially covered his eyes, his complexion looked like he had drowned many times over. Either that or seen a wondering spirit or in other words he looked dead pale.
“Alright, alright I am up” I said yawning, remembering all that in like some odd dream.
“Who was that little boy, he seemed so familiar?” I thought rubbing my eyes as I arose from my bed, walking with him to another room close by.
“Today we get to slay a Golem, but this time were going to have you play around with it for a few hours so you can get back into shape.” Corvin turned to me, and looked at my body up and down, like an examination, he then gave me this sarcastic gaze.
You know that look like, ‘You know what I mean, you better or else you’ll never hear the end of it’ kind of look.
“So I see, so what? Now your suddenly my daily planner?” I moaned, as I walked away from him.
Corvin looked back at me and waited for me to look back at him.
“You know Corvin, all you had to do was say something…and not have to yell at me!” I snapped turning back to him with a slight irritated look on my face.
He smiled looking at me and nodded to my first question about my daily planner.
“Raviel you’ve been slacking in your daily training. Sad to say, I think I may have to become your daily planner.” He turned away petting his kiri that sat firmly in his lap.
(Kiri- a special type of Hybrid fox only found in the outskirts of Phantom Gorge.)
“What do you mean I am slacking? Last I heard you were the one who needed to train not me… The only reason I decided to train was to motivate you!” I replied
He began to laugh hysterically at me, some how he found this more humorous than I did.
“Did you really think I was going to go through all that hardship and for what? A pretty little penny, not on your life!” He scolded, shaking his hand no.
I just starred at him as he laughed away, rubbing my eyes in shame; I walked into another room feeling like a moron for even trusting him on that.
“What an idiot I can be sometimes… one of these days I will get him back, and when I do I swear it will make him wish he’d never crossed me.” I mumbled still able to hear Corvin laughing.
“You should be careful what you say, things tend to happen to those you wish for terrible things to happen to.” A younger voice came from the side of me, sitting in my favorite stool.
I tensed up not opening my eyes all the way, then hearing a slight giggle. Turning to her, I gave a dark glare trying to make her stop, but realized that I was the reason she was giggling. I was still in my undergarments, and I soon flushed with red. I quickly ran off slamming my way to my room where Corvin had finally calmed down.
Corvin would simply turned to face the loud slam of a door, then shrugged, going back to planning my life away.
Panting from that sudden intrusion, I rested my back on the door in my room, sliding to the floor. “Hey wait how did she get in here anyways?” I soon realized, maybe she might be another one of Corvin’s friends that suddenly knows how to get into our own shrub of a so called home…
That same child like voice echoed in my ear, but was now closer. “Why do you run from me?” She asked in a playful voice.
My eyes widened with fear. I wanted to scream my lungs out, but couldn’t find it in me to do so. Her hand was over my mouth, so that explains it.
“Do you promise not to tell your friend that I am here?” She asked with a sad yet confused look on her face as she sat on my lap.
We looked into each other’s eyes carefully trying to realize if it’s okay to trust each other.
I nodded, as she removed her hand from my mouth. She had a bright smile on her face, she then began to blush bright red as she looked down. Her bright green eyes, went well with her brunet hair, she had a very light complexion. Her body was slim but well kept, if the sun light hit her just right, she would be almost desirable even by me.
“Oh I am so sorry!!” She gestured as she rose herself from my lap, she held her face flushed red, hiding in a small corner of the room.
I looked down and also realized what she meant, if Felix would have walked in on that very moment, I wouldn’t hear the end of it. He’d give me a lecture on how I am only 18 and shouldn’t be wasting my time having sex with women. Its not like I do that anyways…But knowing Corvin, he isn’t exactly that ladies type…me on the other hand…its just the looks that grab them…from what I know.
I shook my head; bring myself out of these weird thoughts. “So what is your name?” I asked trying to make her a bit more comfortable.
Bringing her face out of her hands smiling. Mid-day was soon ending and evening was soon approaching. “My name is Kate, no need to introduce your self I already know all about you.” She had a sly smirk on her face, feeling superior she crawled her way to my face. Starring deeply into my eyes.
“I’m your key to your past Raviel, and might I add, your disturbingly gorgeous. I didn’t think you would be this handsome. That is why I waited to see which one of you two was the one I was suppose to help. You see looking at you now makes me shake with glee on the inside-”
I raised my hand to cover her mouth; I smiled looking at her eyes then at her pretty face.
“You know, you’re the type that tells the truth and nothing but, that’s kind of…cute.” Her face let up as she went back to the little corner. Kate would only blink so many times before she would look back at me. I started to wonder what is wrong with her, but soon realized that there was the matter with Corvin, and how she got in.
“You know I still don’t know how you got in my place? Do you mind enlightening me? Because if Corvin finds out that you’re here in my room, while I am half nude, he is going to kick you out and give me an earful of nonsense I don’t need to hear.”
I stared at her trying to be serious, from what I could hear from her was a small giggle passed my ears. At the moment it was awkward, like she knew something more than she was letting off.
“Well that is why your friend won’t see me, I am going to be staying with you for now on!” Kate jumped screaming with joy.
I could only blink and stare at her as she pranced around the room like a mad cat on sugar. Then it hit me. Corvin must have heard that!
I jumped up, grabbing her with firm but soft grip, making sure not to hurt her. Laying her on my bed, as I stared down at her, my faced flushed, red looking at our position, as she looked up at me smiling.
I rose up throwing blankets on Kate as I ran to my door to make sure Corvin wasn’t on his way to find out what that loud screaming voice was coming from. If he didn’t know, then he must be an oblivious doorknob with a deaf ear.
Sadly I was mistaken and soon saw his face, peering into mine it seemed like he was angrier then confused.
“Damn you Raviel why are you howling like a school girl on her recess!” He stomped into my room holding the doorknob.
I turned around, looking at my bed hoping there wasn’t anything noticeable. Sure enough he found it something.
“You lazy good for nothing bastard, you’re still in your pajamas, get adequately you loser. I told you that we need to go and get that golem to play with you and get you back into shape, and the sooner you get decent the sooner we can get back to plan the rest of your life away!” I growled as he stormed out my room.
I could hear some slight movement behind me; I turned to pull the covers off of her. Phew he didn’t look under here, now I still need her to answer me.
Kate looked up at me with a bright smile on her face. That smile sent me into a world I had long forgotten; a bright light gleamed on my body, as I would lie in the tall grass of a small meadow. A young gentle voice echoed in my ear softly, “Hello my beautiful son, my dear Raviel.” I opened my eyes to see who was speaking in such a weird manner of me. I saw a young woman with long midnight black hair, and pale white eyes. They smile caught my attention quickly; I smiled back, wanted to ask who she was. But found it unlikely she will answer at that increasingly growing distance between us.
“Why is he such a jerk, you didn’t do anything wrong, I mean you look go-.”
I looked at her, she had paused in mid-sentence, and her face was flushed red. I didn’t understand her at all. Women, always a mystery to us…
“Is something wrong, your face is all red again?” I asked with a stern voice, turning around to face my closet to become a least a bit decent.
Her voice seemed too innocent in some odd way.
