Spyro: Shadow Legacy (known during development as Spyro: Action & RPG Light) is the fifth handheld game in the Spyro the Dragon series of video games. It is a hybrid action/RPG game designed for the Nintendo DS. It is the last game in the Spyro series to take place in the "original" continuty.

Spyro awakes in the hotel to end his vacation and wish his friends a farewell while they return to their homelands. On the way to the Dragon Temple to learn magic, Spyro falls asleep.While he is asleep,a strange storm appears and traps everyone in the Dragon Realms, Avalar and the Forgotten Realms in a strange dimension known as the Shadow Realm. It's up to Spyro to master the art of dragon-kata and the use of magic, rescue everyone and unravel the mystery of the Shadow Realm.

This game utilises many of the Nintendo DS functions, The player can draw symbols on the touchpad with the stylus to cast spells, 2 players can use the DS wii function to link up and trade collectible creatures. Many of the dynamic objects in the game are full 3D, but the actuall landscape is in 2D art. Boss fights are in 3D arenas.
