Shawnee cake
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Shawnee cake was a favorite diet amongst the Shawanese Indians. The cake was made of maize beaten as fine as possible. This corn meal was then mixed with water, and baked upon a flat stone which had been previously heated in the fire. The recipe for Shawnee cakes was adapted by earily white settlers and later became known as Johnny Cake which is a popular dish in the Southern United States to this day. [1]
