Shaun Greatbatch

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shaun Greatbatch (born [[July 11, 1969) is an English darts player. His nickname is 9 Dart. The reason for his nickname is that he hit a perfect nine dart finish in the final of the 2002 Dutch Open against Steve Coote. It was the first ever nine-darter to be seen on live TV. Shaun's family is said by commentators to have a rich darting pedigree. Shaun lost in the first round of the World championship in his first four occasions, a record for the BDO in consecutive years (Davy Richardson lost five first-round matches before finally winning in 2006, but these weren't in consecutive years as Shaun's were). This dubious honour ended in the 2006 World Championship, where Shaun finally won in five sets. He went on to reach the semi-finals, losing to eventual champion Jelle Klaasen. The result means he did not need to qualify for the 2007 championship.
