Shasta College is an American two-year community college located in Redding, California. It was founded in 1950 and dedicated by President Harry Truman. It later moved to a much bigger campus, while the original campus became the new location of Shasta High School.
Shasta College has many students of all ages, from recent high school graduates to middle-aged adults going back to school and older adults taking classes for fun. The college has a wide variety of classes and programs. It is perhaps best known for its music department, which includes a symphony orchestra, band, choir, music theory, piano and guitar classes. Other departments include art, physical education, social studies, language arts and many types of science. Many recent high school graduates attend the college in order to transfer to state universities after two years. Though many students commute to the college from their homes, the college does have a dormitory. The college has a strong athletic program with several different sports, and their mascot is the Knights.
