Sharon Maguire

Sharon Maguire is a British writer and director. She made her directorial debut in 2001 with Bridget Jones's Diary, the film version of English writer Helen Fielding's book. Not only did Fielding approve of the adaptation, but she also based the character of Bridget's friend Shazzer, featured in the Bridget books and films, on Maguire. [1]

Maguire's received her Broadcast Journalism Diploma from City University in 1989. Between 1991 and 1993 Maguire worked as producer/director for the BBC's The Late Show. She then made several acclaimed documentaries which include The Godfather, a documentary on the American architect Philip Johnson, which was short listed for Best Documentary Film at the Montreal Film Festival.

Other projects in development for Maguire include Mail with Film Four, The Vicious Circle with Oxford Films, and Mother's Boy, for which she has also been commissioned to write a script for BBC Films.[2] The film Incendiary, which was written and will be directed by Maguire, is also currently in production.
