Sharon Gilmour was a fictional character in the Australian soap opera Prisoner during 1980. Played by Margot Knight, Gilmour was the girlfriend of fellow inmate Judy Bryant.
Before being sentenced Sharon had been acquainted with Tony Reid, son of Wentworth social worker Paul Reid. Imprisoned for drug dealing, Gilmour had a short reign as Top Dog within the Wentworth Detention Centre and was often at odds with other prisoners, particularly Bea Smith. Gilmour had little respect for the self-imposed code of fellow inmates particularly when it came to informing on other inmates to the staff.
After making many enemies in the cell block and instigating a bitter breakup with Judy, Sharon was found dead at the bottom of a flight of stairs, and many believed she had been murdered. Several people were suspected including Judy and Bea.
Judy eventually learned that Sharon had been murdered by evil prison officer Jock Stewart. As he gleefully recounted to Judy, he murdered her after she had witnessed him physically abusing fellow inmate Doreen Burns and had attempted to blackmail him: threatening to expose his corrupt practices. Stewart quickly eliminated Gilmour by pushing her down a flight of stairs within the prison resulting in her sudden death.
Judy Bryant vowed revenge, and in a long running story arc escaped from prison several times, tracking down Stewart and attempting to bring him to justice. After several failed attempts Judy returned to prison but after her eventual parole Stewart tracked her down. Chasing her out of her flat he broke his neck after falling down the stairs. He was left permanently paralysed, providing justice of sorts.
