Sharon Creech

Sharon Creech (born July 29, 1945) is an American author, born in South Euclid, Ohio. She is a winner of the Newbery Medal and the Newbery Honor which is a literary award given by the Association for Library Service to Children. Some of her other books, Granny Torelli Makes Soup, published in 2003 and Ruby Holler, for which Creech received the 2002 Carnegie Award. She received a BA from Hiram College, and later, an MA from George Mason University. In 1979, she moved to England. She has two kids (Rob and Karin) and a husband named Lyle Riggs who is headmaster of The Pennington School in Pennington.She has three brothers and one sister, whom she based upon Absolutely Normal Chaos. Every year they would visit Quincy, Kentucky, which is where Bybanks came from, which appeared in Chasing Redbird, Bloomability, Walk Two Moons, and (by reference) The Wanderer. Her grandmother plays a part in Granny Torrelli Makes Soup. Besides being a writer, Sharon Creech has taught English and writing at high school and boarding school. She drew the setting of Bloomability from her experiences at Switzerland. Although spending time with her family is what she enjoys most, writing is second.
