Shanghai Disneyland Resort is reported to begin construction in 2006, being the newest Disney resort. Recently, the Shanghainese government has applied to the Central Government for opening a new Disneyland Resort. The government expects to open the resort with one park, Shanghai Disneyland, by 2010, with construction beginning in 2007 or 2008.

The resort is the second themed-resort venture in China carrying the Disney brand. The land reserved for the resort in Pudong is four times bigger than the one in Hong Kong. If the resort is confirmed to open, it is expected Imagineers currently working on the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will be moving to Shanghai to work on the new resort in 2006.

The park was hinted at as early as the opening of the Hong Kong Disneyland, "There's very little doubt in my mind that there will be a market further north in China for a second Disneyland," said [Jay] Rasulo,"[1] who is the head of Disney theme parks.
