Shane Fitzgerald, an Irish Green Party politician, was elected to the Leixlip Town Council in the Irish local elections of 2004. Fitzgerald is a member of Policing, Arts Tourism & Heritage (convenor), Town Improvements, Leisure & Social Affairs, Youth Liaison Committee, Environment & LIWI (convenor)and also a Rep on Heritage Forum, Spa Committee.

He is originally from County Mayo and has had a long interest in politics. Fitzgerald has been involved with the Green Party for over 10 years.

Fitzgerald acted as the national assistant to the Director of Elections for the Green Party in the 2002 general election. He works with current Green Party TD Paul Gogarty on the concerns of Leixlip and Maynooth.

Shane is the Green Party candidate in the 2007 general election in the Kildare North constituency.
