Shanagarry

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Shanagarry (An Seangharraí in Irish) is a village in east County Cork, Republic of Ireland. The village is located along Ireland's southern coast, and is mostly known for Ballymaloe House, and as the location of Darina Allen's Ballymaloe cookery school and gardens. It is also the home of the well respected Irish Potter Stephen Pearce, and as the last Irish home of William Penn before he settled in Pennsylvania in the United States. Also to be found in Shanagarry is the historic Old Road, an ancient Irish causeway and home to the original residents of the village. This is also the home village of the mighty Russell Rovers hurling and football team. The team is made up of people from Shanagary and local Ballycotton and Churchtown South, the latter making up over half the team even though it is the smallest of the three villages.
