Shall We Gather At The River? is a traditional Baptist hymn, written by American poet and gospel composer Robert Lowry (1826-1899).
It was written in 1864.
In Japan, the melody is most commonly associated with a famous humorous schoolyard song about tanukis with large testicles, an anatomical feature for which they are known, called tan tan tanuki. [1]
